Make Your Own Jam! No White Sugar! Pectin-Free!
I saw this on Face Book last week and just had to share it with all of you!
I usually avoid jams and jellies because most are loaded with sugar and contain pectin. This recipe calls for fruit, a touch of honey for sweetness and chia seeds. The chia seeds are used instead of pectin to make this jam thick. And....if you'd prefer to use agave nectar in place of the honey, you can definitely do that. Use the same measurements - two tablespoons.
This is health in a jar. You're getting all the vitamins, nutrients and anti-oxidants from the fruit and extra fiber, essential fatty acids and a bit of protein from the chia seeds! And this recipe is SO easy! Just toss it all into your food processor and refrigerate over night.
The next morning, you can have jam!
I made a jar over the weekend. My son is a grape jelly fan. A Welch's grape jelly fan. He loved my homemade jam. It only lasted a couple of days. Time to make more!
What can you do with your homemade jam?
Well..... try to resist eating it straight from the jar. Trust me, that will be difficult because this jam is delicious! Spread it on toasted whole grain bread. Make yourself a PB & J sandwich for lunch. Mix it into plain soy or coconut yogurt for a special treat. Add a little to your morning smoothie. Use your jam instead of syrup on pancakes or waffles. The possibilities are endless!
Store your home made jam in glass jar with a lid and keep it refrigerated. It should keep for about 2 weeks, but you can be certain it won't last in the house that long!
You're Welcome. :)
Yours in Good Health,
Cynthia
