Fresh Tomatoes for Dinner Tonight!

There is nothing more perfect than a fresh, homegrown tomato. Gloriously red, deliciously juicy, slightly sweet and delectable enough to bite into like you would a peach or an apple.

Now is the season for tomatoes. If you don't have your own garden overflowing with tomatoes, buy local homegrown ones if you can. Nothing compares.

When you think of tomatoes - think LYCOPENE!  Tomatoes are loaded with them.

Lycopene is not an essential nutrient for humans, but is commonly found in the diet, mainly from dishes prepared from tomatoes. When absorbed from the intestine, lycopene is transported in the blood by various lipoproteins and accumulates in primarily the blood, adipose, skin, liver, adrenal glands, prostate and testes, but can be found in most tissues.

Because preliminary research has shown that people who consume tomatoes have a lower cancer risk, lycopene has been considered a potential agent for prevention of some types of cancers, particularly prostate cancer. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the health claim regarding tomatoes and the prevention of prostrate cancer yet, but the research is definitely worth considering.

So...men, eat plenty of tomatoes!!

Yours in Good Health,
